The work "Dreams of Tomorrow" enriches the collection of DOT Sofia with contemporary Bulgarian art and at the same time enters the 11 suites of the hotel with 11 drawings and 11 stories by Nedko Solakov, told with irony, gentleness and real humor.
"Dreams of Tomorrow" (2024) is a series of 11 color drawings created by Nedko Solakov for the 11 apartments of the DOT Sofia. The drawings are located in each of the hotel's rooms, most of them thematically placed above or next to the beds. Each one tells a short story in Solakov's typical surreal style and seems to come alive in the mind of the viewer, lulling him to sleep like a child's fairy tale.
The stories in Dreams of Tomorrow are surprising and varied: one man dreams that his next dream will be even more beautiful. Another insomniac buys new dreams for the winter, but they keep him awake all winter. An alien in a flying saucer dreams that he is loved by two moons and a star, while the rest of the crew stays awake and suspects nothing. A huge iceberg dreams of melting and finds refreshment in it, waking up relieved that everything is back to normal... One of the main colors dreams that he has become great, but upon awakening realizes that it was only a dream. Another dreamer is confused when he unexpectedly becomes a dreamer, and a light and gentle dream that was once aggressive is tamed by an ordinary person who dreamt it last... The midnight summer sleep brings simple peace. The last, 11th drawing is located in the representative 3-storey penthouse of DOT Sofia and shows us a dream in which the highest peak in the world dreams to rest at its foot.
Let us take a look at some of Nedko Solakov's stories:
A man had a beautiful dream last night. Here he is, trying to connect it with the one for tomorrow night, convinced that the new dream will be even more beautiful one.

An insomniac bought brand-new dreams for the winter—possibly to lull him to sleep during the long, sleepless winter nights. It was in a small box, and when the man opened it, this gorgeous bravura appeared, keeping him awake for the whole winter and part of early spring. He felt quite okay, by the way.

An alien is sleeping in a flying saucer, dreaming that these two crescent moons love him again, and that the star which used to be his guiding light is guiding him again as well. The rest of the flying saucer's crew is awake and has no idea what these two moons and one star are doing there.

An enormous iceberg is having a dream which, by any standard, should be considered a real nightmare: it is rapidly melting. „It's actually, quite refreshing, that shrinking” the iceberg is thinking. Luckily, the brain responsible for its thinking is concentrated in a very small part of its body, hence its optimism. Then the iceberg woke up and all was still as usual. The yellow you see is gone, and the color of this piece of paper is cold white again.

One of the three primary colors had a dream that it became hugely superior to its two siblings. But a lot of energy was needed to maintain this superiority, so the color woke up with a sigh of relief.

A very light and tender dream, which used to be a rather aggressive one, but it got tamed to its present lightness by the very common and insignificant fellow who dreamt it last.

A middle-aged man went to his shrink and told her about a dream from the previous night consiting of a red house on a small island (with love-seeking smoke coming out of its chimney) amidst a suspiciously calm, no-waves-whatsoever sea, with a single whitecap on top of the water, begging for more, many more of its relatives to appear over that dead sea. "What does all this mean?" the man asked the shrink.
"Please, let's analyze your next dream, this one doesn't seem very representative," was her reply.

There was this magic bed with magic sheets and magic pillows that tracked the dreams of the person sleeping in them, and even sometimes corrected those dreams if they were a bit more disturbing than usual, making them softer and much pleasurable.
