September 14, 2025 | Part of KvARTal festival
Join us at the DOT Sofia Art Collection on September 14 for a special art tour with Luchezar Boyadjiev and Vesselina Sarieva.
This is a unique opportunity to meet one of Bulgaria's most recognizable contemporary artists. A leading figure in the Bulgarian art scene since the 1980s, Boyadjiev was born in Sofia in 1957 and studied art history at the National Academy of Arts. He has developed a career both in Bulgaria and New York. Since 1989, his practice has explored themes such as social processes, the interaction between private and public spheres, the urban environment, and the relationship between the contemporary world, utopia, and dystopia. His work spans installation, photography, drawing, objects, text, video, and performative lectures.
Featured Work in the Tour
Luchezar Boyadjiev: "Sofia needs to enjoy" (Lake, Ferris Wheel, Climbing Vitosha), 2020
Drawing, 101 × 203 cm
From the series “Utopian Solutions for Dystopian Cities”
Part of the DOT Sofia Art Collection
This ongoing series is one of Boyadjiev’s most significant projects. In it, he imagines ways to make cities more livable: giving Venice a metro, making New York “rise,” or giving Paris three Eiffel Towers.
For this tour only, we will also present a work from the current exhibition “On Vacation... Corpus Equorum” (National Gallery, Kvadrat 500), which is likewise part of the DOT Sofia Art Collection.
